Hamburg becomes a hub for contemporary dance

The first Tanztriennale – a flagship project of the German Federal Cultural Foundation – takes place from 14 to 21 June in Hamburg. With performances, panels and workshops at various venues, it connects classical ballet, contemporary dance and urban dance. The dance medicine symposium is embedded in this framework: health and prevention thus become a more visible part of the public dance discourse.

Dance physiotherapy certificate now open for registration

ta.med has opened registration for the next round of its dance physiotherapy certificate programme. The programme is aimed at physiotherapists interested in dance-specific prevention and treatment – a continuing education offering that helps close the structural gap between the dance world and medicine.

What works? First comprehensive overview of prevention strategies in dance

Critchley et al. (University of Calgary) have systematically analysed dance-specific prevention strategies across all styles and age groups for the first time. Key finding: strength and conditioning programmes show initial positive effects, but the research base remains methodologically thin. The review highlights the urgent need for standardised injury surveillance and comparable study designs.

Dance injuries: epidemiology, mechanisms and prevention overview

Lei, Wang & Tang (2025) present a comprehensive overview systematically covering the frequency, causes and risk factors of dance injuries. Particularly relevant: injury patterns differ significantly by gender and dance style, making targeted prevention approaches necessary.
